Wet Balsa Core

I'm in the process of removing and replacing wet balsa core from the main deck, although the balsa is saturated its still firmly attached. I've opened the deck between the coach house and the side rail and have left about a 2" strip on each side to use as the beveled edge when I attach new glass after the repair. Cleaning out the wet core from under this strip is surprisingly time consuming, Ive been using a chisel and an oscillating multi tool with various attachments, even so the wet core in this strip stubbornly refuses to come out except in small chunks and as fibers.

My question is, does anyone have a quick/effective method of removing wet balsa between the upper and lover fiber glass sections.

You might try bending the end of a flat head screwdriver into a 90* hook, then use it as a scrapper to pull out the balsa residue.

When I clean balsa out from a drill hole that I am sealing with thickened epoxy I put a modified (sharpened) allen wrench in a drill and let it spin/cut out the balsa. Works pretty well there so might be an option for you.

A pressure washer, a real one, not a hardware store cheapie....

Have you tried a wire wheel or abrasive disc on your drill? That may have a longer reach than your multitool.

A very stiff wire brush on a grinder might work, take the guard off and use the side handle, leather gloves and a very firm grip. I use a variable speed buffing machine for that kind of operation, makes it more controllable/less dangerous to you and surrounding areas.
