Upholstery Screws

I must not be using the right search terms as I'd imagine this has been discussed before, please bear with me.

The screws which hold dressed wall panels and the headliner on my Delphia are galvanized and should be replaced, preferably SS. The problem is they have a hole in the base of the phillips head (they are hollow) to allow the little decorative plastic cap to push into them. I cannot find anything like this on the market here in Australia, has anyone come across these before and do they have a special name?

Thanks

Re: Upholstery Screws

Welcome to the forum.

There are many types of screw caps, here is one type.

That site has other types also.

Here is another option, a flanged washer.

Re: Upholstery Screws

Hi, WAGM65,

Those little plastic buttons push into the slots for the phillips head screws, which are like a normal "plus" sign. We have phillips head machine screws in s/s on our boat that those buttons work on.

Go to your nearest nuts and bolts store, with a sample of one of yours, and tell him you want one like that, only in s/s. Try your button in it. The nuts and bolts guy will be able to tell you where to get more buttons that will fit.

Re: Upholstery Screws

Wow, quick replies, thanks all.

Not quite what I'm after though, it's a countersunk phillips head but with a drilled out core to allow a 3mm plastic pin from the cap to snuggly fit and results in a very flush finish.

I've tried a few dedicated fastener supply shops but they have never seen them before.

Unfortunately we are in Covid lockdown and I'm not supposed to go to the boat so no photo I'm sorry.

Re: Upholstery Screws

Got it. The s/s phillips head machine screws MAY work, though, as a replacement. They are countersunk, and caps available inside Oz. Also, the flanged washers could work, as wingless suggested, but then most people do not cap them. Makes it a tiny bit quicker to get the headliner down when you want to do that.

Sorry about the lockdown.
