Remove and replace original Dorade cowling

I have four large oval cowl plastic dorade vents and i was looking to replace them. They are on my Baltic 43 and from the outside it looks like a threaded collar holds them down but inside they look like there are glassed in. Has anyone seen this style? There is a local company that advertises a stainless steel version, painted or polished, with a threaded base plate and cover. More for aesthetics than purpose but i did have one flood my aft cabin a bit during the big rains in the sf bay area, drain hose fitting was clogged with dirt and water came in through the vent opening. while fixing this i started thinking of replacement.
thanks

Re: Remove and replace original Dorade cowling

The cowl base trim ring reminds me of an old Vetus design.

Not certain how the Vetus ones are attached, but do like the ones we purchased from here.
Do you know how big your boxes are to size your vents?
Never seen a dorade box with a drain hose. Usually they have a hole directly in the side of the box under the vent and a baffle to contain the water. Possibly increase the size of the drain hose to avoid clogs.

Re: Remove and replace original Dorade cowling

We replaced our's last year. The Vetus package included the plastic rings that are predrilled at the same place. The old metal rings do not have the same threads as the new plastic ones, so we had to replace them as well.

Re: Remove and replace original Dorade cowling

Ok, I see your boxes are below deck and assume the orange hose is your drain tube.

Not really a big deal, but if the dirt clogs are a continuous problem would change the hose to a smooth one (vs. the current corrugated/spiral) for better water flow/less dirt hang up.

Additionally we use screens in the outside opening of the cowl vent to keep bugs (mud wasp nests), leaves and dirt out when docked. Once off the dock, they can be easily removed to increase air flow.
Edit: the screens linked above are hard to find and you may need to make them.
