'Oh Joy' Restoration - 9/24/09

We finally got the bulwarks off and Charles is getting them cleaned up:

We also pulled a deck plate out (in splinters) and found it 70% soft.

I found a split in that stringer. Looks like I have to take more out.

She looks strange with the bulwarks off.

I still have to pull this mess aft.

The cockpit needs to come out too.

Lotsa work to do yet....

Did you pull up an old deck? And what's wrong with the cockpit?

The old survey stated there was some soft beams under it. The seat hatch boards where the hinges go are split and the only way to get them out is to pull the cockpit coamings. The coamings are ragged and will be replaced with Sapele since there's no Honduran of that size anymore. There are some soft ribs that need attending and it'll be easier to get to them. I just know there's other goodies hiding under there that I haven't seen YET.

Yeah, I splintered that old section as it was toast and the fasteners corroded. That's why ALL of them are gonna go.

Did you get a tent at the Landings Charlie? That looks expensive.

No I got the boathouse. The tents are $1200 per month and this building is $525. It's more than I care to spend but with the rain coming it's necessary. I can spray in there too. That's a big plus for me come painting time. I didn't ever pay any attention to this building until it came empty. I thought it was a yard storage building or something.

It ain't gonna happen Scott. I post on the WBF when I post here and most ignore them. A select few don't however and they're the ones who's brains I pick when I'm stumped or want to make sure I'm doing something the right way.
