Rick, keep me posted on what you find. Email me when the time comes. We have come up in NZ some very cheap large engines at times. Waay cheaper than the cost of rebuild and often in very good condition, purely because we don't see the hrs on engines to the over all life of a boat. For instance, there are two realy big(probably too big for your situation) Detroits on our NZ Auction site here at the mo with NZ$2K on each. I doubt they will go anymore than that. That will work out at abit over about US$1K'ish.
Just a thought.
Take a quick look on www.trademe.co.nz
I can find you more direct links if you have problems searching around.

Well, that's what happens when you run diesel through a gas engine block I was thinkin you were refering to a slightly larger application
FWIW, the Jimmys I am referring to are 12.7liter truck engines.THe Series 60 is not the old 2 stroke you remember, but that is another story. I charge more to work on those little car engines too
Rick, have you talked to Never Monday yet about the boat power plant? He made me a very good deal on the Yanmar for the tri.

Now I know why you're paying alot of money on that engine.
