interior wood treatment

If you have an unvarnished/oiled teakwood interior with occasional mildew..here is a tip for you.

Treat the wood with pure lemon oil. Simply wipe it on and let it soak in. The lemon oil has citric acid that kills the mildew, enriches the wood, and smells great.

The pure lemon oil can be purchased at gun shops that sell it for refinishing gun stocks. Do not use Pledge or other furniture products.

Have done this on our 42 yr old Islander 30 MKII sail boat for many years. I previously used Watco oil as recommended by Islander, but that just fed the mildew.......lemon oil kills it!

We treat our gulfstar interior wood with Murphy's oil soap once in spring and again once in fall. Delute as instructions on bottle. Have had good luck with this for the past 12 years. We haven't had mold issues though. Will keep pure lemon oil in mind though. Thanks.

agree on the lemon oil. as an added benefit the lemon oil does not seem to darken the teak as other oils do. and like you said it smells a lot better.

We've had good luck with lemon oil. Our interior teak has not shown any mold with applications once a year. It's even available at WalMart in the cleaning supplies section.
