Homemade Teak Cleaner

Does anybody have a poorman's homemade teak cleaner recipe they can share? The cleaners available seem to be sodium hypochlorite and sodium hydroxide.

Re: Homemade Teak Cleaner

I tried someone's suggestion of using laundry detergent. Worked just as well as some expensive teak cleaner. I might try the oxalic acid. Thanks

Re: Homemade Teak Cleaner

In the distant past I used a product called Teaka, or something like that. A two part process: paint on part A, scrub lightly, rinse, paint on part B, rinse. LEft teak looking great, but ate away the softer parts and raised the grain horribly if you scrubbed much at all.

Part A was simply sodium hydroxide (lye) and part B was phosphoric acid.

Worked but would not ever recommend it due to the damage to the timber that easily developed.

Re: Homemade Teak Cleaner

Hosed the squid ink off our duckboard yesterday with a small karcher we have aboard.
Teak looks brand new.
A shame as I'd rather the natural grey look.
