Re: Happiness is a Warm Spool Gun

Thank Mechanico, Bleemus.

I'll add that the new saloon/galley sole weighs 70 lbs, while the old sole weighed 200 lbs.

Re: Happiness is a Warm Spool Gun

I am removing most of the tumble-home from the interior of the cabin sides in order to mount the port holes more vertically. This will (hopefully) alleviate some of the water that collects and drips inside.

Re: Happiness is a Warm Spool Gun

My technique of pre-painting and gluing/foaming the interior coverings is producing a very high quality finished product.

However, the process if VERY time consuming. Between waiting for the paints to dry and the foam to cure, it is literally taking days to finish the panels.

Steve

A forest of support sticks keep the foam from "blowing" the overhead panel off. The panel is 4 MM but feels like 24 MM once the foam behind it cures:

The stained glass is original to the boat. It was preiviously installed in the old head port hole.

The child sized bunk is for my 8 year old daughter. It is 6' 2" inches long but has marginal width at the foot.

Re: Happiness is a Warm Spool Gun

Do you use a glue gun to put those patterns together?

Re: Happiness is a Warm Spool Gun

I bought a production urine diverter and seat for a DIY composting/desiccating head.

Plywood wall and top will be 'built in' to the forepeak. Curved wooden part is a 3 layer lamination of grooved, 4 millimeter plywood.

A computer fan will mount inside the box and continuously vent overboard.

A five gallon bucket will collect the crap, and a 6 gallon portable holding tank will collect the piss.

This will be my first experience with this type of head. My hope is that this system will be an improvement over the old porta potty.

Steve

The Gorilla Glue worked perfectly for this as it expanded and filled the groves in the plywood.

Tank was a lucky find. Width and Height are PERFECT for this space.

Re: Happiness is a Warm Spool Gun

I got the wiring pretty well sorted. Lights are in along with power for the 12V fridge (under bunk), the head fan, bow light.

I'm also installing a USB port at EVERY bunk for device charging.

Re: Happiness is a Warm Spool Gun

Some shots from today's installation of (some of) the forward cabin trim.

Next winter's project: Tear off the saloon trunk cabin sides and replace with same treatment as the forward cabin.

A contrasting shot from 3 months ago.
