Okay, gasket dressing then… or gasket sealer

Many names for the same thing.

Also, you should use tefgel according to forum experts

Did you paint the outer edge of the acrylic to protect the VHB tape from UV?

No, created a rebate in the mold so window was flush. We found deck mold in a paddock so was easy to do during its refurbishment.

Why has this thread been allowed to go on for twelve years? Quite likely the information/advice offered in earlier posts is no longer relevant? Maybe the original poster is dead by this time.

Now to reply to the post. Why replace the windows with acrylic? The life of acrylic is around 7-10 yrs and can be affected by different chemical.

Boat manufacturers these days have switched to toughened glass. Surely that is the way to go?

20 Dec 2019 — Our top pick for boat windows is glass. Both Laminated Toughened glass and Monolithic Toughened glass, in particular, are extremely durable and .

Maybe this would be relevant/helpful?

Because leaks are timeless, otherwise they would have dissappeared long ago. Generally, with time, you leak more often , from multiple sources, a curmudgeon once informed me.
As for toughening, I guess you need to be tough to be old, as I am discovering.

Leaks may be timeless but adhesives are evolving.

I used 295 out in the Caribbean for the growing gap under the large curved windows on old Fountaine Pajot. Could not sneak the primer under the lense, and did not know about the need anyway. The 295 did not stick to the acrylic.

that's because 4200 isn't compatible with acrylic...or at least not recommended from their data sheet. has a low sheer strength

- Fast Cure 4200 is not recommended for the installation of glass, polycarbonate or acrylic windows that are not also mechanically fastened. Inconsistent adhesion of these unprimed substrates, specific design of the window and movement due to thermal expansion and flexing may cause application failure.

Given your context and the feedback from experts Dow Corning 795 is generally preferred for sealing acrylic windows. It provides a balance of durability, weather resistance, and ease of application that makes it well-suited for this purpose. If you want to talk to someone else, reach out brennan enterprises customer service here and see if they might offer you an alternative.
