Adding copper to bottom paint and or Petit ultima sr 60

Used petit ultima sr 60 I actually added copper powder to it. I worked phenomenal after 2rs 3200miles I was growth free (I do scrape the bottom accasuonally) it has a biocode and 60% copper load. I'm very happy with it. The bargin hunter in me. Has me wondering if I use a cheap ablative and add copper to it lots of copper do you think it'll be just as good? Any one add copper powder to cheap ablative with good results?

I have a strong hunch your results were more due to you using the Pettit than adding the cpper powder. I believe Practical Sailor has experimented with additives with underwhelming results.

Use a good paint, scrape it periodically, usually gives good results.

I think we do this several times a year. You can't simply dump copper powder into a complex matrix of biocides, solvents, binders and coloring agents and expect it to work. And if you do expect it to work, you're deluding yourself.

If you believe that's all they do, then why are you wasting your money buying their products? Why aren't you making your own anti fouling paint since it's nothing more than paint with copper added?

Jeezus, unbelievable

Normally, Petit SR60 will easily go 2 years with no scraping, so my take away is that you made it worse by adding copper. 3200 miles in a season is not much and probably actually helps. The environment was damaged and you violated the intent of the law. A triple failure.

If you want a bargain, look for good sales. WM PCA Gold is occasionally deeply discounted and is a very good Petit product (now Odyssey HD to my understanding).

Re: Adding copper to bottom paint and or Petit ultima sr 60

So Being from the northeast I haul out every year sand and repent before I launch. I probably shouldn't have sanded but I did so I have 2 Coats of ablative. I know there's 2 because they are Different colors. So if I were to prepare for indefinite Cruise On a shoe string budget of course. Where harlots would be somthing only if absolute nesary. What do you guys do to prepare and what do you expect? Should I be looking for multiple layers and just scrape as needed? Basically

Yes and I recall the conclusion was to add chili powder to your paint. A secret formula that the big boys haven’t figured out yet

How do you tell if a harlot is necessary? Is there a test to take? How much is a good harlot? Are bargain harlots better? Should I stick to the same harlot year after year or can I mix harlots? About the repenting, how often is sufficient? Is there such a thing as preventative repenting? I hate these posts that just get me worked up and confused!

Well i apologize for the grammar. have to use speech to text i'm learning disabled. Some times it's does its own thing. But maybe some day I'll get 160,000 posts under my belt and I can regurgitate a bunch of stuff I've read as gospel. actually Id probably would just offer MY opinion and or experiences rather then make fun of bad Grammer and stupid questions. Sorry to anger the gods.
