Zinc on radiator

I cannot locate any zinc "bars" on the barton raw water cooling system attached to my diesel engine. Should there be? If so, can I just buy any "bar" and attach it anywhere on the system? Ir does it have to be a specific type attached to a specific location? Thanks.

Re: Zinc on radiator

Typical heat exchangers will have a pencil anode screwed into the seawater jacket. They look like this

From the outside you’ll only see the brass hex head.

There are some systems that are built without anodes.

Thanks. Does anybody know if a Bowman MB30 heat exchanger uses a zinc rod and know its location?

Re: Zinc on radiator

“Bowman do not fit zinc anodes as the tubes used in the construction of our heat exchangers are of copper nickel alloy and as such do not require a zinc anode.”

Thanks. Would that be true even for older models ? Mine says MB30 and I would expect it to be at least 20 years old.

I’ve never seen a bowman with anodes
