Is a sealant required when reassembling the raw water cooling system on a diesel engine?

David, no for several reasons. That's not something you want coming loose inside the cooling system and blocking it up. Also, when you come to take it apart in the future it will be a nightmare. They are expensive and fragile so care needed.

If the connections are clean and hoses in good condition with quality clips, that should hold.
