Volvo Penta MD2B cracked cylinder block

Hey guys,

So, yeah, my baby had a cracked cylinder block. Is that a part I can remove and replace or do I need to also replace neighboring parts? I mean, gaskets of course, but does the cylinder need to be paired with the piston or anything? I think I have access to another motor and am trying to decide whether to take parts from that one or swap motors then cannibalize parts from this one. I have both my heads removed and found one blown head gasket (cracked side). The other side looks okay.

If the other motor is good, it’s easier swap them out. Then use the broken one for spares.

It's been 22 years since I sold my boat with its old MD2b, but from what I remember they are individual cylinder blocks and pretty easy to change out one at a time. Just a matter of using the right shims to get the proper compression when you put it back together.
