I am not an oil engineer but I was told that it had to do with the additive package used in the multigrade oil. The fact that an engine did not glaze up does not mean it is good practice to run engines unloaded or with incorrect oil for the application. I have a question for all, why is it that when the manufacturer recommends something like using mono grade oil many feel they have to prove them wrong? Also why is it they are more likely to believe Fred down the road or over the fence who might be a street sweeper or accountant than the man who designed and/or built the product?

Were you told by Fred?
Where does the man who designed it recommend mono?

Its called a workshop manual as far as the oil is concerned + Yanmar representitive. Yanmar rep recently as far as turbo useage with AC generator. Gordon I thought I made it clear that my information was from the manufacturer. Just like the oil blender from the oil company I spoke to about synthetic oils for cars. So no I did not speak to Fred but like I said why believe the experts Fred obviously has done proper back to back scientific testing

In my manual it asks for oil that was good for its time...there has been much improvement in the oils since then and I would have naturally thought oil "in my case" almost 30 years later would be far superior than the stuff they had then.
