OM636 Engine Smoking and Popping

Hi I am in Phuket and have an older Merc engine...not sure if this will help but, I had similar problem. It turned out to be water! getting in due to manifold corossion. If you are still have your problem, there are enginers in Boat lagoon or if you know the fishing port in Phuket Town, go over the bridge and turn right, on your right, on the creekside go into 2nd yard, there is a cafe at entrance, all the local Tradesmen leave their cards their..but if you belive in self help..get the head off!
