Engine hose

When looking for a quality hose to connect from sea strainer to engine and associated components, who make the best hose? I picked up some 5/8 hose from my local Carquest store and it was so cheap I won’t install it. Any ideas or recommendations?

Re: Engine hose

I needed some decent hoses to fit between my sea cock and the raw water strainer then another short hose from the strainer to the water pump">raw water pump.

I went to one of these car places and looked over the selection of radiator hoses and Choe two that seemed to have the corners I needed. I bought them and cut them to fit, there is no undue strain on them nor any kinking at the elbows. Been cruising five years with that set up.

Re: Engine hose

I usually end up with Trident hose of some sorts as it’s what most marine places sell. Be careful using car rad hose as depending on your engine and intake it may not be rigid enough and may collapse.

Re: Engine hose

I thought that through, the longest run is 11" with the built in Bend. From the strainer to the raw water pump it is 7", also with a bend.

You are right that a longer run has the strong possibility of collapsing. My damned engine compartment is tight, tight ,tight!

Re: Engine hose

Only use vacuum rated steel reinforced hose.

Everything else will collapse sooner or later.
