Telling Stories about length

They dont even pretend any more. In fact they seem to be proud of the deception. From an FP promotional email
Quote:
the Lucia 40 may be redefining what's possible in just 40 feet (38'4" actually, but who's counting).

Almost as bad as quoted MPG on car literature.

Or emissions on a Volkswagen.

Re: Telling Stories about length

Lipari 41 is LOA 39.2ft
Salina 48 - 46.9ft
Leopard 44 - 42.58 ft
I wonder what the biggest badge vs LOA difference there is out there?

Re: Telling Stories about length

My Rafiki “37” is only 36’ 9”. Where’d my 3” go .

If these manufacturers were really smart they’d go the other way. Think of the savings at the marina dock .

Re: Telling Stories about length

Back in the day I owned a CS 36...actually 37 feet so when I was comparing it to other 36 footers it always seemed bigger, lol

Some are:
My Albin 28TE power boat is 31’ if you measure the anchor platform and the swim platform.
Big difference as the Bahamians sometimes charge $300 above 30’, sometimes $300 above 35’. (Depends who is on duty) paid both prices, but with the Albin 28’ they can’t argue length anymore, unless they bring a tape measure

My Tayana 42 is actually 41’9”. Where did my 3” go? Maybe we could gather up all the missing 3 inches and build a boat out of them.

Re: Telling Stories about length

That's just weird. Why would they do that?

AFAIK, most or all European monohulls are badged according to hull length, with LOA somewhat longer. It's beneficial in marinas.

It's not the length that matters, it's the beam! ;-)
