Oh boy, I started talking to them in mid-to-late 2016. Visited their yard in late 2016. Signed a contract shortly after. Then initial design by Grainger took 4 months, with lingering work in following months. They had to build hull molds which took like 6 months. The hulls were popped out of the molds in Q1 2018 and we'll be finishing ~April 2019. So it's like 16 months for the build itself, but it's been a very lengthy process overall, plus the year of boat shows and market research before committing to them (all of 2016). A 3.5 years end to end experience. Hull 2 will have a much easier time

Re: Forward cockpit Schionning Design!

Beautiful.

Congratulations.

We also went with a two cabin design. One cabin and head in each hull.

Your boat looks very nice.
Kudos to you, and Mr Grainger, you certainly got it right.

Paul.

FWIW A forum member here has a forward cockpit cat named Rumdoxy. It might be MikeReed.

Re: Forward cockpit Schionning Design!

A few observations:

The title is misleading there is no forward cockpit, the cockpit is aft.

To get to a head one has to pass through a private single "birth". I would prefer to not pass through a maternity ward to go potty.

An inside helm is wonderful for when the weather is adverse, wet / cold climates.

Can one readily view the trim of the sails from the inside helm? It is set up with winches and clutches so it is intended for sailing and not just motoring.

Unclear as to the position of aft tillers and where the skipper sits.

Limited seating in the salon.

There seems to be a trend for Forward Helm & Forward Cockpit, I chose to build a DH550 that ticked all the boxes for me. I required a large Saloon for the tropics, to keep cool & have inside & outside helm with forward working cockpit, & large enough aft cockpit & most of all a 55ft Cat that can be sailed by two people.

Re: Forward cockpit Schionning Design!

Did I read that right? A 52’ catamaran and yet two of the cabins (the only ones with double berths) have no access to the heads except through another cabin? What were they thinking?

I too would like to have a saloon in my salon so as to serve sundowners to guests.

Yep indeed.

Two double "birth"s and two single "birth"s. With that much birthing this is definitely a yacht in need of professional delivery services.

And no separate pissoir or vespasienne on deck, thus requiring two persons with the aft queen birth cabin intruding for nature calls through a single birth cabin.

At least there aren't four heads like many charter cats.

Renderings only, no actual picture gallery, so just concepts. Concepts can readily be changed on computer.

And very nice it is, too. I'm sure you'll have no shortage of volunteers to crew if required!

It's a trend I've followed because the idea appeals to me. Has your boat been built yet? She'll be quite the weapon

Did you see that your sistership is up for sale? I think it's the original Harvey build.
