Comfort ratio

I was looking over the segment where you can find comfort ratios on a certain sailboats, but the one that I'm looking for is not there, I was wondering if anybody would have an idea what the comfort ratio on a piver 35'trimaran lodestar?

Re: Comfort ratio

The comfort ratio formula is meaningless for multihulls.

(Although you will find sites that apply it)

Re: Comfort ratio

I am sure that the waves Rock a multi-hull maybe not as much I don't know I ain't been there but I don't understand why the comfort ratio wouldn't work for multi-hulls they got to rock the boat one way or another and isn't that what the comfort ratio is about how the vessel responds to it's environment in the waves that are being pushed against it? I really don't know I'm just another seer that's why I asked a question so blurting out something that just says no it just doesn't count because they're multi-hulls doesn't count my mind wants information

Re: Comfort ratio

Find out why a monohul heels and rolls, what the comfort ratio reflects and the factors involved.

Then compare the distribution of weight and buoyancy of a monohull and a multihull and their motion in response to waves (and how many waves act on them simultaneously).

Their motion is completely different and reflect an entirely different set of forces.

It should be obvious why D ÷ (.65 x (.7 LWL + .3 LOA) x Beam↑1.33) is not applicable.

Re: Comfort ratio

CR formula must have been formed as a practical joke. Unfortunately, some people failed to see thru the joke.

I have been on boats with high ratio that were most uncomfortable and on others that had low ratio and were very comfortable.

To me comfortable is flat and wide ass. Heavy deep round bilge is NEVER comfortable (before the size of Ocean Village).

Re: Comfort ratio

I'm surprised nobody since how long has it been since multi hulls have been around I'm surprised there's not a formula for them by now and continue on with a joke

It was

COMFORT RATIO (CR): This is a ratio that I dreamed up, tongue-in-cheek,...

https://www.tedbrewer.com/yachtdesign.html

It's well worth reading the whole CR section and the disclaimers about it's applicability to different styles of boats.

People always give me a weird look when I say this, but for us, it's very true.

I'd rather look at a Tayana 37 than sail it.... And I'd rather sail a Pogo 12.50 than look at it

Re: Comfort ratio

To me the comfort ratio on a cat is all to do with sleeping accommodation, you spend 8 hours a day in this one location, beds where you have to climb over a sleeping partner, or are sitting above engines, get a score of 0, the full island beds score a 10, semi island 7.5. The other comfort factor, the head, one in each hull is fine, less than two scores 0. 3rd factor wave slap, so higher BD is is preferable. After that it does not matter much.
