Any comments on a Solaris 42 1979ish

I am looking at a Solaris 42. It had the mizzen removed, as well as the rear cabin removed with the cockpit extended. I am interested in buying this boat, and would greatly appreciate any comments you might have, good or bad.

Thanks in advance!

Ty

I have no first hand knowledge but there was a thread either here or here on Cruisers Forum about them. I seem to remember them being referred to as being an exceptionally poor performer. Maybe the mizzen delete helped. If I'm wrong on any of this then I apologize.

Well, there are not that many Solaris 42's and probably no others that have been modified the way you describe, so there probably won't be many with any expertise to share on it.

Here's that thread. Search Solaris 42 here for more.

Re: Any comments on a Solaris 42 1979ish

Thank you, all. I am not looking for speed. I would trade that for well made and comfortable to live on any day. This boat has twin 50 HP's, so yes a motor-sailor. Sand Crab, I was searching for a link like you supplied, and couldn't find it.

I worry about a ketch that has been changed to a sloop, and what that means to overall dynamics of the boat.. Also will there be following sea problems as the back cabin has been taken out and the cockpit extended. Thoughts?

Thanks again,

Ty

It will probably sail better w/o mizzen as long as you have a modern big roach main....and a decent size genny.........
