Surveyors in Australia

Hi everyone,

I am considering buying a boat very soon, and am looking for some recommendations for a surveyor in Queensland Australia for a fiberglass boat.

I am aware of the marine surveyors association of Australia's website, but am more looking for personal recommendations based on previous experiences from forum members. If you have names of surveyors that you've personally tried or have heard good things about, I am interested. Also interested in the ones to avoid (via pm maybe).

Thanks for your help.

Re: Surveyors in Australia

Queensland in a very large state so it may help to narrow down the location a little, like say the Whitsundays, Brisbane / Moreton Bay area etc

Re: Surveyors in Australia

Chris Carrington (Moreton Bay area) was hired to survey our last boat. As the seller, I was impressed by his thoroughness, and felt that he represented the boat fairly to the buyer.

Cheers,

Jim

My friend Paul Slivka is now retired but he is one of the very best and may be able to direct you to one of the better ones. If you are really lucky you may be able to coax him in to one more survey. mpslivka@bigpond.net

Re: Surveyors in Australia

Yes, you are correct, I should have been more specific regarding location.

Brisbane/Moreton bay area would be ideal. But if there is an excellent surveyor located outside of this area (say 40km up or down), don't hesitate to mention them.

Thanks for the answers so far.

Re: Surveyors in Australia

If it's for insurance, sometimes the insurance company will provide it's own surveyor.

If it's for pre-purchase, definitely hire your own, don't get talked into letting the broker provide one.
