Rot!!!!

I guess it had to happen sooner or later. Just as I was planning and executing the final upgrades and fixes there has been a nasty outbreak of rot. Now the entire aft deck and cockpit tub have been sawn out and a redesigned structure will be installed. Horror!!! Holy Cats! This is absolutely affecting my sleep and testing my resolve. In the end it will be fine but the process is nerve wracking.

Re: Rot!!!!

Would it bother you greatly if I asked to see pictures?

Re: Rot!!!!

Rot never spreads instantly. It has probably been going bad for a couple of years. MINERET recently posted photos of a Cascade 42 that had a large section of aft deck and cockpit torn out and rebuilt. It might be a good post to find and study. He does really nice work. Good Luck, ____Grant.

Sorry to hear it's gotten so bad ... But that didn't happen overnight like an 'outbreak', just like gjordan said.

Good luck with the repairs!

Re: Rot!!!!

Yeah, boat repairs can be very disconcerting for sure. I've lost a lot of sleep and experienced gloom and doom over blisters over the years....

I will take some pix of the demolition today. The mizzan is out and it's a few days till all the old structure is removed. Then it will be re designed to prevent the ingress which has caused the rot. When the work is completed she will be her fancy self again. The cockpit will also be a better place to lounge during warm weather.

Re: Rot!!!!

She's a gorgeous boat, when I first read that, I almost fell outta my chair. I'm so glad your able to repair her and it sounds like, even improve her. I will definitely look forward to seeing as much about the repair as you feel like sharing.

Is she in Port Townsend? Who's doing the work?

Of all the sailors on this board, you are local and uniquely acquainted with the near majic things about the Ingrid...as well as the faults we must forgive . I am not the Idorakeeper for nothing.. She and I have much to do together yet.
