And then I have seen and been on others that were derivates built in strip-plank or even steel. The ones I have sailed (Slocum 43, which is same hull as Passport 42, and the 45/458) were well built boats, sailing wonderfully well once in the groove. None, well none that I have been on, were racing boats, just built for comfort.

BTW the '45' model was imported and marketed initially by the Passport company, but later sold as the Liberty 458, which in turn has a lot of things common with the Kelly Peterson 46.......

'Sailboatdata' gives a good overview, but states that all boats were built in Taiwan by their ‘yard’. I seem to remember that more than one builder was used by Passport and maybe even one in China, but that is only going on memory.

The Liberty 458 where built in the shin fa yard with hans christians. They were based on a stretched kelly peterson 44 (to 46) hull. I thought the passports were built in different yards.

I have a stunning 1999 Passport 43 that is often mistaken for a Hinkley. The boat is basically a Passport 40 with an upswept transom extension. They have a modified full keel with a slag hung rudder, backing up is a learned skill and takes practice. They sail well and on a reach 10 knot speeds are not uncommon. Under power she will motor comfortably at 6.5 knots, 1 gph (50 hp Yanmar). Don't expect a high performance racer/cruiser as she is heavy (33,000) but she is well built, safe, comfortable and sweet to look at. The Passport 40 (1980's vintage) is a boat that is hard to beat.

Just a few minutes late to the thread here. Wondering if anyone knows whether the Passport 47 had iron or lead in the keel. Mid-80's vintage.

I had an '85 aft cockpit, IIRC it was lead, but I'm not 100% on it. Tom Wagner/Wagner Yachts in Annapolis would know... if they are still around.

You probably bought a boat a long time ago. Hopefully you found a good Passport. I've had a Passport 47 for 2 years and love it. Very stable in rough water, faster than expected, gorgeous Perry design, overbuilt in every place that matters. Cockpit is livable and safe, unlike many other passage makers.

I met Tom years ago. He and his wife are nice people.

Nearly bought a passport 55 , backed out because costs were rising.

Nice boats.
