i have been dealing with the complications of refitting the inboard diesel on my boat which has been without power for way too long. i recently decided to use what i had laying around to build an outboard bracket for it. 4 stroke with e start and e trim and throttle/transmission control from the cockpit. it seems strong enough and works pretty well for getting out of the channel. i was wondering what anybody thought about it and if anyone's tried to do the same!

Not too bad. The problem with outboards on a longish yacht is that any pitching either lifts the prop out of the water or in a worst case scenario dunks the power head. Not a problem if the boat is used on calm water only. When this isn't the case, a typical approach to minimise this is to keep the outboard as close to the transom as possible. This can be done by using a sliding mount that also gives height adjustment for different situations. It probably reduces torsional load on the transom as well.

If it works for you then it works for you. Come time to sell that boat, though, and you are either going to have to install an inboard, or SERIOUSLY discount the price.
