Beam: 8 feet


your maximum allowed "cargo" is 1820 lbs ( + 4 persons ). looks like you are a bit overloaded.

I quoted this, because they not only did it, but did it in record breaking time thosedays, which is still pretty hard to beat even now. So it's completely possible and perhaps still pretty safe with 4 persons and equipment. And they're many others, who made it in Vega. There was no mention about riding Gulf Stream or hanging around southern pacific but about crossing ocean, which also includes going with the trades to Carribean.
