Mao Ta 36

I am looking at a Mao Ta 36 which was a copy of a Union 36 which was a copy of a Han Christian 36 which was a stretched version of the Hans Christian 34 which was designed by Robert Perry. Whew.

Although there is a facebook page, there is little knowledge of them. My question is of build quality. Is it as good as the two aforementioned companies? Were there any blister issues?
It has a slightly different keel configuration than the HC 36 or Union 36 and that being a "Brewer Bite" cutaway at the back of the otherwise full keel.

I had a friend stop by and look at it as he was driving back from the PNW to Ca. He sent a pile of pictures. The biggest problem ie there had been years of a leaking port which saturated the cabin ply and then into the unencapsulated deck from the inside.

There was a lot that I was capable of in my 30's in that there was not a boat restoration project I could not handle and...I really enjoyed it. Now, in my later 60's, I'm a lot more selective. My craftsmanship is about the same but my knees hurt. I use to call crawling into a tight engine room, "Boat Yoga" is now called, "Honey call the fire department, I'm stuck".

After a long hiatus from cruising Mexico, I'm back into it with this Westsail26 restoration. I have a wife that reminds me that I'm not in my 30's anymore. Being on the ranch here constantly screams out for needed work. We are currently down to 2 horses but they still take time.
there is a lot of good ole boats out there for under $30K. I usually spend 1/2 that. They're around but it seems the boat has at least one glaring defect in reality would hurt my body. The other thing I have run into and I equally pass on is rudeness from a broker or private owner. that story could take up a whole new thread.

Sheesh, mate, you've taken on a real task! Not only tarting her up, but adding two feet to the OAL!

You might as well add another 4 feet and end up with a Westsail 32...

Good Luck with the project, and get rid of the nags... a serious time suck!
