Help me ID this boat make and model!

Hey Fellow Cruisers,

Recently came across this beauty and am thinking of making an offer on her to fix her up.

The current owner is maintaining that it is a 1971 C&C 37' but I'm having trouble matching that up to any records. Would love to ask C&C but I understand they went the way of the DoDo.

Any wizened salts know anything about this boat?

C & C had a "custom" operation which this might be. Do you have any more pictures of side view including cabin, also of the cockpit. You should post to C & C owners forum which at least was one of the best organized and active owners groups a few years ago when I owned a C & C. They had a great write up of the history of C & C.

Thanks for the response! I don't have any more picture of the cabin or cockpit yet. I should be able to provide some additional pictures in a week or 2.

And thanks for the advise to post in the C&C Owners Forum! I'll be sure to do so!

Why worry about pedigree?? If you like it, it's in decent shape and the PRICE is right - go for it. Life is way too short to miss out on the opportunities that sometimes jump out at us.

Re: Help me ID this boat make and model!

Doesn't have the C&C standard Cove Stripe, the bow and keel are not C&C design patterns. 1971 was early, but C&C was quite consistent on design even in those days. Even if built by Bruckman (C&C Custom) it would have had their design signatures. I had a 1975 C&C 33 Mk 1 (cruising interior and deck) and this boat is not similar design. Currently have a 1984 C&C 37, with even fewer design similarities.
But that doesn't mean it is not a nice boat if you like it and price is right, but it may sail differently than a C&C.

Another point - C&C traditionally used a Black anodized aluminum toe rail. Unless this was a pre-C&C George Cuthbertson design. Interior does not look like a George Cassian design execution, but I could be wrong??

C&C is no longer in business, but Bruckman Yachts is still building boats. His son (Eric) is considered the Hinkley of Canada. You could get in touch with him at bruckmannyachts.com

Re: Help me ID this boat make and model!

The keel and rudder look consistent with C&C's of that era, but it's lacking the trademark star on the cove stripe. I would think that even a custom build would still have that feature. I agree that records don't seem to match up. Doesn't seem to be enough sheer for a '71 C&C either?

Looks similar to this '71 39 ft C&C. By the mid 70's those weird keels went away.

I take it you do not have a hull number for the boat. If one exists (check the transom near the deck) it should contain a manufacture's code, year, and hull number.

Check cncphotoalbum.com. It has a C&C forum.

Did you get the HIN off the stern?

you could also shoot Rob Mazza a note. He is now an editor at Good Old Boat magazine and was a designer at C&C at the time.
I had an alloy '68 C&C custom that had none of the "trademark" features mentioned, except the shark fin keel. Looks fast, but isn't.

Re: Help me ID this boat make and model!

Our Hinterhoeller Niagara 35 built in Canada, 1977 does [U]not[U] have an HIN embossed in the transom as was required in the US.

Engraved plastic tag riveted at the aft cockpit coming and non-standard numbering format. This involved extensive back and forth with the insurance company to get them to accept the number as correct.

Hinterhoeller was one of the production yards for C&C.

Could it be a C&C Invader built by Hinterhoeller?
