Giles Vertue

Hi everyone,

I have been offered this steel boat for sale as "Giles Vertue".
However, at first sight, the keel line is not really what I'm used to see as Vertue-like.
The boat is constructed in steel, perhaps the shipyard adapted the original rudder layout to ease in steel building?
Any vertue experts out there that would like to throw in their opinions?

That sharp corner probably saved the builder 20 hours. If you like the way she sails and is otherwise suitable, I wouldn't sweat that detail.

Hi, thanks for your feedback; I'm only concerned about it being sold as "vertue", i'm getting it anyway. But after hours of digging on the web I couldn't find any info regarding the hull shape being modified (and by whom?), moreover, the lines look more like a contessa 26 than a vertue (see pictures)

I loved the story by humphrey Barton of his early crossing of the Atlantic.
The book was virtue xxxv here is a link to some more information. It appears that several versions of the boat have been built.

The seller probably doesn't know( or guessed). You'll probably like the cut-away forefoot more anyway.

The Contessa is a well regarded design.

Contacted Laurent Giles Naval Architects; turns out this is not a Vertue at all.

Just a leetle pride on the part of Laurent Giles- nice of them to give you a definitive answer.

If you like how she sails, she'll be enjoyable for you- Vertue or not.

Good name: No Vertue (may help attract the girls....)
