Re: Can a Ketch Be Sailed without the Mizzen ?
Educate me here - I have another dumb question...
How does one get a sail to stick to a lamp post? I'm intrigued...

Re: Can a Ketch Be Sailed without the Mizzen ?
I would take a good hard look at the specs for the lamp post, and compare with the spec built mast. It is probably a larger diameter, and heavier, and may not have the same flex and bending strength as the munufacturers mast. I would say you run the risk of a breakage, except that is obviously already a problem.
If you don't have the spec's for either post specifics and I'll try to find something. Whats the worst that can happen, ... it breaks?? Then you're back where you are now.

Gaff Wing style.... large zip up flap that fits round the mast... quite efficient actually...

Re: Can a Ketch Be Sailed without the Mizzen ?
The experience and satisfaction of building a mast...I dont want to miss, farthermore it is not something one does very often...this being said I am seduced buy the idea of a fast replacement (mast of a 30ft with sail) I can always build my one mast when out in Aisia few years from now.

yeah, they've been putting them on roads around here the last couple of years, but I think the solar panels and high placed battery bank would be drawbacks, and I doubt the lamps are CG approved. Ketches sail without the back stick, just be careful if it is also being used as an aft anchor for the big stick, like mine. I'd still run without it, just reduce sail area sooner. When we got our boat, I believe owner #1 only used the mizzen to hoist his big dinghy aboard, never anything else. Junk sounds intriguing. Enjoy your summer.

Hello zee...
I did ask for the specs in leaky teaky...they answered all my needs
also I may have a few things to ask these guys when I star my refit...so I want to spare them a little for now...you know the saying (too much of anything isnt a good thing)
cheers

Re: Can a Ketch Be Sailed without the Mizzen ?
It just occurred to me: I suppose, if you use a lamp post, you'll have an anchor light at the ready too....
