Best Blue Water 40 Ft. Boats from the 90's

First of all I know they'll likely be debate about the terms "best" and "blue water" (and probably what I mean by "40 ft" whether that's LOA,LWL or some other metric. So let's just say boats you like from that time period in the 40 - 45 ft. range that you'd feel comfortable crossing oceans in. I'm asking because I'm wondering if there are some nice boats from that era I haven't yet considered. Here are my current favorites. TIA

I think first you need to give us an idea of your needs. How much money you have to spend... Do you need a shallow draft boat ... is speed an issue.... comfort..... how many cabins.... new or used boat.... etc...

Once you narrow down your needs, the boats will narrow down as well....

Discovery Yacht Group is designing a 42 for Distant Shores . It's not finished yet but it should be a real nice Blue cruiser.

Give some more info and I will try to help.

Hamburking you're doomed. That is a seriously beautiful boat and the price seems very good. See you out on the water!

No kidding, those pics must be 10-15 years old or something seriously wrong dead diesel, rotten topside, interior completely water damaged etc. to warrant that price. That’s a steal if it checks out.

I lived aboard a 1986 Tartan 40 w a Scheel keel.
IMO there's none fine. Speedy, good looking and very strong. Beautiful ,strong.

Norseman 400. This 40' is a 1987, so a little older than 90's, but an AWESOME cruising bluewater boat. The Norseman 447s are also stout.

Those are the ones I would start off with also, but would include the Caliber 40 too. Norseman 400 (Grant) and 447 (Perry) are nice boats also, and Ta Shing builds (they build Nordhaven now) and they have a great reputation and uphold it.

Stay away from teak decks though on any 90's Blue Water boat, whatever the make.

The Taswell 43 also came in an All Season configuration, very airy inside. These boats are spec'd with oversized (by today's standards) hardware, and tankage and general construction/rigging spec is first rate. Gelcoat holds up very well, still takes a great shine with polish with or without the final wax.

Dixon designed them, and before that, he was in the Fastnet '79 race, which effected his concept of cruising boats. His credentials are also first rate for a designer. Interview here:
