The Midnight Sun
Race (flotilla) to Norrland will take place this summer in July 2014. The Eskad will consist of several flotillas from cities along the coasts of
Sweden. Stockholm region will be Eskad no 1. then Gävle, Härnösand, Sundsvall, possibly even
Finland … when 5 or more
boats choose to join a new del-eskad will be created. Each eskad will have a leader. The Stockholm eskad will start the first week of July. Plan on 6-8 stops on the way north. All eskads will meet in Luleå in the evening of July 10th for the Luleå Hamnfestival July 10th. It’s a free
family festival with
food,
music and activities that is expected to attract around 150,000 visitors during the festival’s three days and the Midnight Sun Eskad is just one of the event highlights.
After the festival the 13th of July we set sail south to visit the many pearls of
Sweden. From Luleå sailors can either continue with an Eskad or if you prefer sail independently at your own pace south. The Stockholm eskad will return to Stockholm the end of July. If several del-eskads are formed we will try to coordinate them by size and average speed.
Safety and fun is our goal. Expect an amazing adventure and a fantastic Norrlandsk welcome with new friends.
As an extra bonus Erik Nyström the sailor author of Norrlandskust will be sailing with the Midnight Sun Eskad and has made over 35 passages to Norrland. Eriks book “Norrlandskust “ is considered to be the bible for sailors sailing to Norrland.
There will also be a crew
service available for shorthanded sailors for either the eskad north or south. For those without their own
boats there are also boats available for skippered or
bareboat charter.
