Sailing instructor for a Moody 49 in Crete

I bought a Moody 49 based in the Marina of Agios Nikolaos, Crete. I have limited sailing experience and I would like to have a sailing instructor to go sailing with me this summer in the Med. Thanks, Mel

Welcome to the forums, also, good choice of boat. If you go to one of the local yacht clubs, they can likely put you in touch with a local captain, or at the very least a small crew of experienced people willing to go out with you and show you the ropes. Good luck!

Don’t know if he teaches— but Boatman61 is a top shelf delivery captain. If you can get him to teach you will be a better sailor than most.

Re: Sailing instructor for a Moody 49 in Crete

Mel,

I skippered a TSDY out of Vouliagmeni many years ago. If I was helping out, I'd try and get your boat out of Agios Nikolaos, as soon as possible. The Meltemi can start blowing from now through to October.

I know I got on a ferry one time to have a few days off down in Mykonos. I got stuck on Mykonos as even the ferries stopped running, as the wind was that strong! If you watch a few of the YouTube videos on Mykonos you'll see folks have issues. The Saronic islands will be much more quiet than the Cyclades which is where the Meltemi can really blow through there. The guy I worked for never took his boat down to the Cyclades only the Saronic or the Ionian islands. FWIW, the yacht's owner also owned a shipping company & I had to report to a port captain to make sure I was doing my job! So the locals can know of what can happen!

Have a great Summer!

I’ve found a local sailing instructor here and I’m going to work with him and see how it goes. In the marina here we have a strong community of sailors from around the world and they are also very helpful.
