Re: Who posts on CF forum while at anchor or crusing

I post while at the dock all the time. I could get on Himself's smart phone and post if I wanted to while out in the bay, but usually I am busy sailing then.

If we were anchored where there was a connection I would prolly do it.

We aren't cruising so that's not an option!

Re: Who posts on CF forum while at anchor or crusing

Recently completed my first coastal cruise, St. Pete to Orange Beach, AL. Should call it a summer cruise, since I took almost three months to do it. I wasn't in a hurry. Sail for a day, anchor for a week or more. Spent a month in Carabelle area.

Only two nights in that time that I didn't read and/or post on CF. One was the overnight crossing from Cedar Key to Carabelle. And the other was tied up at a free dock on the ICW near White City, just east of the canal to Port St. Joe. Couldn't get a signal on my MiFi device.

So, yes, I've been on the forum practically every night at anchor.

Posting via wireless (4 Gb limit/month).

With Telcel 3G in Mexico and a usb extension cable I can post on CF up to 30 miles from shore in some areas, done it many times. I will also choose a particular anchorage because I know it has a good signal. With a strong signal you can even skype.

Nope. Not me. But then I didn't have a computer or smart phone to do it. Now that I have a phone I plan on doing it occasionally, although there isn't a CF app for my Blackberry...

Re: Who Posts on Cruisers Forum While at Anchor or Crusing ?

My posting activity increases as the weather conditions worsen for the winter. While cruising and anchoring wifi is not normally available where I choose to cruise. I do have a broadband stick but that is paid for data transfer. I keep the internet usage on that to a minimum. Love the free wifi at the marina. Full time liveaboard, winter season in a marina.

At anchor in Las Brisas, Balboa, Panama, from the free government WiFi signal out in the anchorage.

V-Sat while underway in Nigeria, from the house during off time. Soon to be aboard the vessel full time, then I'll have to reread all the posts about long distance WiFi antennas.
