USCG Documentation Changes

Just read this article on Cruising Compass. USCG will be extending Documentation to 5 years instead of the current 1 year.

Re: USCG Documentation Changes

Wonderful, now the question is will it be $26 per year or $26 per renewal.

Re: USCG Documentation Changes

One can only hope that implementation proceeds quickly... Mail delivery can be very slow from US to foreign ports. While one would expect the charge to be $26 per renewal as the charge was based on actual cost to the coasties. Me I don't really care long as I dont have to wait somewhere for the new COD to show up every year.

One hint if you are a constant traveler. You can renew and pay online (http://www.uscg.mil/nvdc/news/Payinstr.pdf) with a provision for a temporary mailing address if your current location is different than your address of record.

Re: USCG Documentation Changes

While I'm glad to hear the extension to a 5 year documentation period, it still seems too short a period considering that passports are good for 10 years.

Re: USCG Documentation Changes

Just renewed my Doc it is still only valid for one year. By renewing on line I received new Doc in a week.
Maybe by the time I renew next year it will be a five year period.
