We have a simrad
ap20 running a simrad
Robertson rpu1 1500/2000 which drives a Wagner TA12B 90cu hydraulic steering
I would like to have a complete rpu1 so if the current
one (which works) were to fail when we are out at sea, I can swap it out quickly.
These things tend to fail when you're 2000 miles off shore with no hope of repair.
I don't mind if it is not the same unit but it would have to be able to plug
and play with the solenoid controls coming from the ap20.
I can find lots of simrad pumps (rpu160 rpu300 etc) but I don't think these pumps operate the same way. I think these only pump when the autopilot
tells them to and pump in one direction or the other depending on which way the boat
needs to turn. Mine pumps all the time, (constant on) and the autopilot tells the solenoids to open or shut directing the flow one way or the other.
Obviously I'm no expert hence the question.
I understand this type of system is used on larger boats where the volume of hyd fluid/flow is a bit bigger. It seems that there must be other replacement options but I am not sure where to start.
I don't know if one of the reversing type pumps could plug
