Seven months Cruising and Five Months Working

Well I have been offered a job working only 5 months a year every year, excellent money, so we can bring our plans to cruise forward, am 50 next year, should have boat all refitted by xmas.
Only problem is the work is from May 1 to end of Sept, so we can cruise from Oct 1 to end of April, but with Cyclone season where should we go, thought first year we could take off to Whitsunday's till xmas either hang around and run and hide from a cyclone, or cruise down to Brisbane and Back to Gladstone, perhaps take off to N.Z, Bay of Islands, leave boat there for a while or take off to the Islands, Vanuatu we love.
Anyone with past experience sailing these areas that time of year, that could give us a plan, something to aim for.

Re: 7 months cruising & 5 months working

you would be better off keeping the boat in the malaysia, thailand area,as nov-april corresponds with the best time of year for sailing around those parts.
easy sail to singapore from cairns in october,by nov you are out of the cyclone area and into the good season in northen hemisphere.

royal langkawi yacht club has reasonable priced berths $300/month,international airport with good connections to europe and oz.island is duty free, good marine spares etc ,great year round cruising community, cheap fuel, plenty of cheap resturants, cost of living very cheap, good fast wifi in all the marinas, and some of the ancorages. hot, humid from april till november, dry and cooler nov till april

vanuatu is great but very limited for cruising, also has got very expensive(new caledonia prices!!!,though beef and yams cheap).
boat yard is up and running there now with a travel lift, port vila lagoon is not reccomended for leaving an un attended vessel over cyclone season, moorings about $80/week stern to $135/week.
the anchorage un protected from the west and not very good holding.

virtually no cruising community out of season, wifi expensive and very slooooowwwww.

very hot and humid,no wind/big wind rains a lot from nov-may.
