Mexico's Gulf Coast

Thinking about a cruise next year. I am currently based out of SW Florida but will be moving north of Tampa soon. Planning kind of a longer shakedown in preparation for a bigger trip which will include Yucatan and Central America. Considering coastwise along the Gulf Coast of US then to Mexico's Gulf Coast. Don't really see much written about this area. I have cruising guides for Carribean but not Gulf Coasts. Any input, other than it is filled with bloodthirsty desperadoes and I will certainly die? (Cuz that also applies to Miami!)

No its mostly filled with commercial facilities for the oil patch. Not much written because not much there for yachts/cruisers.

However, there is plenty of interest to cruisers from Isla Mujeres all the way down the Central American coast to Panama.
