I have been looking into becoming a
deck hand over the last 2 weeks. I was recently laid off from a communication position in the field that works in a construction
environment. Working hard and under adverse conditions is nothing new to me. I recently started looking at union positions as I was working for a union in my previous job.
My question to anybody who could offer their opinion is this. I wanted to know if joining the union and taking
classes through them to become a oridnary seaman (OS) for the next 8 months, which offers on the job
training at sea for 90 days would be the best way to get experience in the industry while earning a little cash while at sea? Also, does anyone know the monthly pay rate for a senior (B) OS?
I made a trip when I was younger from
miami to
jamaica and I loved it. I also have a 21 foot
power boat that I use during the season to have fun which I also love.
