How do you manage to steal a 41 foot sailboat worth $250,000
Just found this news article....
http://www.sfgate.com/crime/article/Christopher-Maffei-speaks-out-in-court-3854537.php
“From there, authorities said, he went to Ballena Isle Marina in Alameda and stole a 41-foot sailing yacht called the Unleashed valued at about $250,000 but capable of a top motor speed of only 6 knots.
The boat was spotted the next day in Vallejo and then again early Friday when a fisherman saw it 50 miles off the coast of San Mateo County and notified the Coast Guard.
After shadowing the boat by air and sea all day, the Coast Guard moved in Friday night and freed the children. Maffei was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping, child endangerment and parental abduction before being booked into the San Mateo County Jail."

'i don't belive those people asked advice on cruisersforum first before stealing the yacht!"
You make is sound like they were asking how to steal a yacht. The thread seems to just beabout cruising plans, so why not ask about that on CF?
As to how to steal a yacht...no really, how can that perplex anyone capable of standing erect and using tools?

Yeah, but if the yacht were worth $350,000 instead of $250,000 it wouldn't be so easy, would it? :-)

With all respect to encouraging a spirit of adventure (which is laudable and I do appreciate the lack of negativity which sometimes pervades other forums) I'm slightly surprised that given the nature of the questions, no-one suggested that maybe a little more study at meteorology, passage planning and, well, sailing might be in order before undertaking a trans-pacific voyage like that

Re: How do you manage to steal a 41 foot sailboat worth $250,000
Even stranger....I found out a month ago that this was my neighbor. He wasn't around much, and eventually the house got foreclosed (after he stole the boat). Talking to the new homeowners and they told me the whole story. Strange small world...

They had a similar case a few months ago in Fla, where the family took off in a 23ft sailboat = with two children (incl a toddler) and landed in Havana.
