I have a hurly 20 iv just started sailing and was a little worried that I mite tip it over. I have see a compass that tells you how far you are heeling but I don't know how far I can take it.*
I was in wind gusting from nothing to 12mph and when the wind took the sails I was going well but just worried that it mite go over. Please help.*

Sorry! In all seriousness, the H20 is a seaworthy little boat by reputation and I suspect she would turn upwind by herself if overpowered. Button up the cabin and give her Hell. I doubt anything other than a storm-driven wind would be able to lay her over.

Yes I thought I was worrieing about nothing. The chap before me took it to sea and had no problem. But I thought I would try and find out just how far it would heel using an on line calculaytor and it came up liable to capsize. I think I just put my numbers in wrong. Thanks for the help.

Most keeled mono-hulls will not capsize unless in extreme conditions. Even then, if the keel is still on the boat, they will usually right themselves if the cabin doesn't flood.
About the worst you would ever suffer is a knock-down (90°+). I have only had that happen once when an unseen line squall (50+kts) hit us at night while under full sail. Bilge-keeled boats like the H20 are really tough to knock down... it can be done, but it isn't easy... go sailing and don't worry about it!

So when the wind is broad side on and she is heeling so the water is up to the gunall just enjoy the speed. Thanks you have put my mind at rest.

Whilst it feel and looks fast, actually sailing her a little more upright may be faster as you're no going sideways as much.
Given your location I suggest a hours playing on the Norfolk Broads for which she will be perfect.
Oh, and welcome to CF

Yes I fully agree peter but I had no choice but for it to hit me sideways. Only been saling for 2 days so that was the fastest I've been. It worried me I was going to go Over so I kept dropping the gib and sailing on the main. Next time I will just leave her up and enjoy the speed.
The day before (Thursday) was amazing for liening beautiful day with just a little wind. I don't know if you know the broads but I went from st olaves up to the castle then back round and down the new cut. Amazing day took the cut with the wind behind me jib out one side main out the other.
Yes some more days on the broads learning. VHF lessons and some work on the sails before I take on the sea. But I can't wait !!!!

Re: Help ( how far will my hurly 20 heel before it will capsiz
I have only sailed on the Northern Broads but it is a perfect learning ground. As a child I learnt to sail a lug sailed dinghy there. When the gusts arrive letting out the mainsail will help to calm things down or hang on tight for the ride
The good news is on the boards if you really get it wrong you just end up on a muddy bank. Secondly as the yacht leans over less sail area is presented to the wind until the mast is level with the water and the wind has no effect on the sail.

Reefing your mainsail allows you to reduce the sail area, which is a good idea when the wind gets up a bit, because it reduces heeling, improves control and comfort, and actually makes the boat go faster than when it's heavily heeled over.

Re: Help ( how far will my hurly 20 heel before it will capsiz
I had a look on line and I don't think I can do that as I don't hae the fixings on my sails. As I realise I was being a bit of a wimp and worrying about nothing. Also I realise that just because the wind is coming in on the broad side didn't mean you have to have the sail at 90 digrees to it I should have let my sail out a little that would have stratend shr back up.
