Feedback on 2011 Lagoon 500 for sale

https://catamaranguru.com/2011-lagoon-500-sale-usvi/

Hey guys, just looking for some feedback on this listing. Looking for a worthy vessel for my family of 5.

In general does it make more sense to buy a newer boat (5 yrs or younger ) ?

Would like to spend around $500k-$600k .

I’d like to avoid major maintenance costs, engine replacement, rigging etc.

I’ve seen listings for newer Lagoon 450F 2017 and newer for mid $5s-6, cabins are a little smaller but still like the layout.

Open to suggestions on boats that would accommodate myself and my wife and 3 kids.

Thanks

If you want to avoid extra maintenance, look for vessels which have been in private use only.

The best size is the smallest possible (lower cost, maintenance, etc. and easier to handle).

A few years ago we hired a Catana 50' for a day in Lisbon. The owner was a lawyer and clearly very wealthy. However, he hired the boat out for daily cruises to help offset the high maintenance costs...

Since the cat above is over 10 years old, it might need new standing rigging...

Not a big cat guy, so I’ll keep this short, and it’s pretty generic advice anyway…

Avoiding maintenance on a boat is generally not a winning strategy. If you have $600k to spend, spend $400k. Then when you do need a new engine, or time comes for the rigging, you have plenty of cash sitting around to deal with it. You don’t have to try to nickel and dime whoever is doing the work for you, and you get to sleep better knowing you are still in for less than the $600k you were originally thinking of spending (with the possibility of the same maintenance bill thereafter).

It doesn't work that way. The larger the boat, the more it will cost to maintain. Age is somewhat irrelevant. Everything on a larger boat is more expensive. There are also far more things to service on a larger boat.

You are better off with a smaller boat and a larger repair kitty.

What is your experience owning, operating and servicing systems on boats?
