Re: Cruising with regular household fans?

Thanks for all of the worthy conversation. I can see the regular Hella fans working for me most of the time. However, when the breeze stops coming down the hatch in the summer it's time to pull out the big fans.

Re: Cruising with regular household fans?

Just slightly off topic, but if you want cut amps use with fans, you could try the really quiet, 12 VDC, 0.25 amp, inexpensive fans that move a smaller amount of air such as for sleeping etc, These are the super-quiet, slower-spinning, muffin or computer fans of about 8" (160mm) diameter size with curved blades. We have had great success with them. You might need to install a switch and make up a small simple aluminum bracket or whatever to hold them but they are slim enough to be mounted almost anywhere. Just leave enough space in behind for air to get to the blades. Instead of A/C, we now use one at home in our bedroom at night, using a small power pack in the wall. Almost noiseless, healthier and environmentally friendly.
I recognize that this might not be adequate in very hot and humid climates.
As well, because of the howling inline fan that used to ventilate my engine compartment, I installed two of these, but of higher speed and slightly higher noise, 4" fans in 4" ducts, and as they move about 550 cubic ft of air per minute they do a great job. Again about 0.25 amps instead of the former 6 amps. Of course, the 6 amps was not a problem with the engine running, but it was afterwards when cooling down the compartment before the engine heat seeped into the main cabin.

Cheers, RR.
