Broken kick-up rudder casting.

Thought I could fix this myself but after looking at it today not so sure. Catalina 22 direct doesn't carry parts for this anymore. Anybody had any experience/advice on this?

I think I would try JB Weld, accompanied by several extra through-bolts through the side plates, above and below the break.
BTW, it looks like the kind of break that might have been caused by extra loading from the rudder being partially kicked up. Any time you feel some extra pressure on the tiller, check to make sure the rudder is all the way down.

In addition to above you might also consider either:

- placing a short stainless reinforcement rod vertically at the break, drilling into each side of the break.

- extend stainless spring length (new part) to cover over break acting as reinforcement at break.

Use LanoCote where any stainless touches other metals.
