I bought my boat in Southampton (well, nearby, on the Hamble), some five years ago. I planned to get used to her for half a season then move her to the Med (since I don't live in the UK). After just a couple of times out along the UK coast, I realized that this was an idiotic idea, forgot all about the Med, and, after a certain amount of time, secured a mooring on the Hamble.

The UK has an unbelievably beautiful and varied coastline, and is truly a paradise for sailing. Very challenging -- with big tides and strong currents and tidal races and strong weather blowing in off the Atlantic. But absolutely wonderful.
