Bora Bora and Raiatea Favorite Places

We are sailing out of Raiatea in a few days.

I've already searched threads on Tahiti sailing and have a few questions.

We like to eat most of our meals on the boat, but are always up for dining ashore on occasion, esp when the moorings are free when doing so.

On our planned itinerary, we will be overnighting in Apu Bay, Pt Raititi, Haamene Bay, Faarua Bay and Opua Bay.

I've gathered from other threads that Motu Piti Uutai, Motu Nao Nao and South Raiatea are also favorite spots.

Questions are.....

Have any of you dined at the Bora Bora Yacht? Bloody Marys at Point Raititi? Hotel Bora Bora? The Hibiscus Restaurant in Haamene Bay?

Also, what about Tahaa? Any favorite places there?

Thank you very much.

Evidently no cruisers in the Society Islands.

Must all be in the Med or Caribbean.

I doubt if our 30 year old info is of use to you, but we liked the Oa Oa moorings and restaurant and management. I suspect there may have been a "few" changes since then.

Well Bloody Mary’s is a must visit for the novelty. We did not eat out much do to cost with the exception of the food trucks in Papeete. It’s a bit early in the season but lasts years crop should be able to shed some light on the current favorites

I'm sure, but looks like a great location....not far from town which is good.

Thank you. We will definitely visit Bloody Mary's.

Yea, we are expecting to pay a lot when we eat out. I've read that local food isn't too dear and that the food trucks are usually pretty good, but with "San Francisco restaurant" prices.

You could try Kevin Keys who lives on Moorea, He was the PO of my boat when I bought it in Fiji,
Tere Hau Nui was the name of my boat back then,

Cheers, Brian,

Thank you Brian. No need to trouble anyone. We're pretty much set. Was just hoping to get a bit more insight and read some stories from those who've already been there.

I'm gonna do a little write up when I get back.

Already there's a few things I didn't know about .....like NO hotels in Uturoa that have both a pool and air con! Geez. Actually have to drive a fair piece to find those luxuries.

Re: Bora Bora and Raiatea Favorite Places

Just a reminder for those who may be traveling to FP in the near future.

Due to the Corona virus....If you've visited or transited a list of Asian countries since January 1st, you will need a health certificate issued within FIVE days of travel.

There's a lot more detail on the FP govt website.

Re: Bora Bora and Raiatea Favorite Places

We cruised through the society islands in 2017 and dined at the Bora Bora Yacht club, food is very good and reasonably priced as I recall, the owner tried to charge us for using his mooring balls which was a bit rich as we had sundowners there most evenings, we gave him a token amount to appease him. Didn't dine at the other locations but had good reports on Bloody Mary's food and moorings were free.

Re: Bora Bora and Raiatea Favorite Places

My wife and I enjoyed Bloody Mary's but that was back on our honeymoon, 30 years ago. The island has become much more developed since that time, likely many more restaurants and lodgings, or at least so it seems when we stayed on Bora Bora for a single day returning from New Zealand two years ago. Should have stayed longer so my daughter could have experienced more of that grand isle.

I'm thinking now that we should plan on spending more of our sailing time around Bora Bora too.

Thank you for your response.

Surely the owner of a mooring ball has the right to set his price, just as you have the right to decide it's worth it, or not? "A token amount to appease him" sounds otherwise.
