Miami to Bahamas

Wife and I are recent empty nesters in our mid 50's. We were planning a trip from Texas to Honduras for Christmas, but with COVID, those plans are out the window now. Sooo. we are looking for another empty nest couple with a yacht that may be planning a trip from south Florida to the Bahamas for Christmas and New Years. We have our own 33ft pocket yacht but it's stuck on a lake in Texas. LOL.

Anyway, I sill have all of my vacation time available for the year and will need to burn it off. We will most definitely contribute significantly for fuel, food, drinks and what not. We're looking to fly to Miami on or about Dec 18th and have time until Jan 4th or 5th.

Re: Miami to Bahamas

Currently Bahamas is closed to all visitors.

This situation seems to change very frequently. You need to get on the gov website and monitor the status literally daily.
Our boat is stranded there and we have been following the situation since lockdown- its never easy and generally speaking a bureaucratic mess. You may not get to go.

A while back I looked in and you could still go on the private boat as long as you had documentation of a negative test test within 10 days. Of course that may no longer be the case but I am interested as I plan to go this winter as well

The word I've seen on the Bahamas site is that it opened Nov 1st with a negative COVID test in the last 5 days for all occupants. It's on the US Embassy's site now.

Well, clearly I was wrong in my initial statement- but this still confirms my second statement to check often.

That's par for the course down here right now... as a cruiser you have to be ready to change plans rapidly or hop when you see a narrow window for check out/check in.

The islands arent afraid to shut down to some or all countries as needed to protect the health of their people. That means an ever changing landscape, but is also why many of the islands have zero (or near zero) cases... so in our minds, well worth the extra effort.

I'm currently in Naples, planning a trip to the keys December.

I already have several buddy boats lined up, but more is welcome.
