However, she is in one of the most sheltered spots in the harbour so ought be be okay, but its very early in the season and a few folk are going to be caught out and not just boats.

It's not been that bad in Cowes. I've been on board since yesterday. Nothing over 50 knots, although they say there have been 70 knot gusts at the Needles. That's feasible sailing conditions in the Solent. I guess your boat should be fine. Are you in a marina?

I long for my Hamble mooring in weather like this. Way up the river, never any wave action of any kind. And the light pontoon between the piles moves with the boat, so there is no harsh boat-dock interaction. Cowes is quite bouncy, even after the new breakwater was completed.

I've got a 20mm long nylon rope with a rubber buffer in it rigged from the pontoon opposite to my offside quarter, pulling the boat clear of the pontoon I'm berthed to. Another line from the offside bow to the perpendicular pontoon holds the bow off. This adds immensely to comfort in a bouncy marina.

DH Sort of, we are just north of Premier marina but you need a dinghy to reach the pontoon. A series of tall flats on the shore does help to protect the boats moored nearby.

The good news is I was able to get down to the boat on Friday, check the new lines and drop the Genoa to reduce the windage. I am trying a pair of those metal spring things on the mooring lines this winter. Previous rubber snubbers were okay and lasted about 5 years but the lines cut through the rubber bit by bit.

Found this one shot in Ireland little surprising given the location is quite far inland and Cork had plenty of notice of the storm coming but still folk left sails up and empty dinghies tied to pontoons.
