Victron dc/ dc fuses

Just wondering if this is correct?
Alt positive to starter post then to start battery positive.
60 amp fuse from positive post to victron dc/dc 30 amp. 60 amp fuse before positive on lithium house bank.
The supplied diagrams have fuse between post and alt but don’t mention starter.
Regards

Re: Victron dc/ dc fuses

it is not required to fuse the starter. because it's hard to do correctly. IE you'd need a 500a fuse but the wire is only 2awg or so. so you can't actually fuse correctly.

if the alt is run to the battery I would fuse that there. if the alt is run to the starter post the cable is so short it's normally not worried about. from the factory most are not fused from alt to starter. if it was fused there it would be hard to get to to check / replace.

Re: Victron dc/ dc fuses

You are only fusing the DC/DC converter, right? It should be fused one both sides, at the ends of the wires where they connect to the batteries (directly or indirectly) Each battery can supply very high current, and that's what you are protecting against should their be a short in the DC/DC cables or internals. I think this fusing is what you are describing, so I think you are correct.

As SMAC points out, fusing is not required between starter battery and starter. And it's also allowed to have the alternator output connected directly to the starter as well. A fuse would be desirable, but most engines come as a package with alternator output wired directly to the started post post, and that's allowed.
