Heading off to New Caledonia in September 14 for a couple of weeks bare boating. Anyone got any recommendations for charter companies there?

hi Sten, we have chartered with Noumea Yacht Charter...www.noumeayachtcharters.com and we were satisfied. There's only one thing no one is going to tell you about sailing in New Caledonia. There are plenty of highly poisonous snakes all around the place (both land and sea), so watch out while snorkeling or swimming...and walking on a beach.

While it is true that there are numerous snakes at times, and that they are indeed venomous, they simply are not a problem. They are docile, non-aggressive and pretty slow on the land... and not interested in you in the water.

We've encountered many a " tricot raye" in our long experience of New Cal, and had to remove them from boats and dinghies. None of them made any attempt to bite or otherwise threaten us.

As to charter companies, sorry, no experience there.
