SPACE WEATHER

A trio of solar storms are heading for Earth, potentially disrupting radio and satellite communications – but also causing some impressive aurora in the night sky.

On November 27, the Space Weather Prediction Center, at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration [NOAA] detected multiple Earth-facing CMEs, blasting off from the surface of the Sun.
Right now, massive chunks of charged plasma are racing toward us, on a collision course, prompting NOAA to release a geomagnetic storm watch* for November 30 through December 1.

Re: SPACE WEATHER

I erected a Faraday cage around my home years ago to protect against solar storms. As an added precaution I still keep my tinfoil hat handy…

Re: SPACE WEATHER

If strong enough, these DC induced currents can take our largest power transformers off line and disrupt natural gas lines. I worked on designs to measure these currents. Not sure about the natural gas pipes, but i do know that transformers really dont like dc current flow.

Re: SPACE WEATHER

Darn! Forecast is for clouds and rain. Some day I'd like to see the Aurora around here.

Re: SPACE WEATHER

I enjoy a weekly news letter from this group of scientists. The images and movie clips of their solar observations are fun to review.
